Business opportunities on the menu for breakfast
New business contacts and customers were on the menu at the Science Vale UK business breakfast event.
More than 100 businessmen and women attended the event at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, which included Google’s New Business Development Principal Robert Swerling explaining how the company puts innovation at the centre of the business.
There are still opportunities for businesses in southern Oxfordshire to hear from Robert at two further business breakfast events.
The events, which are organized by Science Vale UK, are aimed at promoting the growth opportunities in southern Oxfordshire for science, technology and innovation. They are being held at:
Both the events start at 7.30am. To register visit www.sciencevale.com
Everyone who attended the event at Harwell on Friday (22.01.09) was given the opportunity to make new business contacts and identify potential new customers.
Stuart Roper, of the Federation of Small Businesses, attended the event this morning. He said: “We have so many small businesses here and it is a great opportunity to get out and meet large businesses which potentially can give them work.
“This is a perfect opportunity to meet these bigger businesses. Without this type of event you could spend all afternoon on the phone and not get through to those people with whom you need to build a business relationship.”
Alison Adams of Didcot First said: “The business environment in this area is just spectacular and science and research are at the centre. We are very glad that Science Vale UK is bringing together so many very senior partners who need to be working in concert.
“I would encourage people to come to these events because of the opportunity for shared benefits and to understand what is happening on their doorstep.”
Robert Swerling said: “The Harwell Campus is home to some of the best scientific brains on the planet and it has been really exciting to meet and engage with people who are changing the world.”
Sally Ann Forsyth, Director of Science Parks for Goodman, which owns Harwell, said: “Events like this underpin the aims of the Campus – bringing people together in an open environment. We have world class facilities and world class research bringing together world class organizations.”
Business people attending the events will also hear from Business Link and the Oxfordshire Innovation and Growth Team about support available to businesses from the Government, as well as hearing about the aims of the Science Vale UK Partnership.
