What we do

We make sure that our high-tech economy knows what’s new and exciting, who is doing what and what’s hot and what’s not. We’re not a news agency, we’re not a club and we’re not a learned society – we’re the best bits of each and a great deal more.

Our insight means that we can:

  • Create pioneering initiatives to support businesses, help them make connections and strengthen Oxfordshire’s science base
  • Act as a voice and a conduit for communicating the views of local businesses to local and regional government
  • Provide practical information about starting or growing a new venture
  • Provide relevant bridges between business, academia, schools and the public
  • Highlight our region’s science successes across a range of media

We pioneer practical support initiatives in response to science and technology business needs

  • Peer Mentoring – Small groups of technology company managers meet on a monthly basis and through a facilitated session discuss issues affecting their businesses.
  • Experience Exchange – An opportunity for young companies to meet seasoned entrepreneurs with a view to developing a longer term advisory relationship
  • Technology Showcase – As a member of the Venturefest Board the Science Oxford Networks delivers the Technology Showcase at Venturefest, Oxfordshire’s annual fair for entrepreneurs. The technology showcase is an exhibition of innovative technologies from our local entrepreneurs
  • 4ICT – A project facilitating communications, partnerships and collaborations within the ICT sector, with the longer-term aim to develop bespoke support programmes for this sector
  • STEM Ambassadors – an opportunity for anyone with a background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) to give up their time to work with local schools.
  • 4 Women – This is a facilitator led series of regular meetings where women from local science, technology and engineering companies can share experiences and expertise in a neutral and supportive environment.
  • Nuffield Science Bursaries – Do you have a mini project you haven’t got time to do? A Level science, Maths and engineering students can spend 4-6 weeks of their summer holidays in a local research or high tech organisation carrying out a genuinely useful project, with a bursary from the Nuffield Foundation.
  • Linking Businesses with Public Audiences – Science Oxford has recently completed a project funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Ingenious Grant Scheme to help local engineering companies promote the work they do to public audiences
