The STEM-UEN, a partnership between industry, universities and the public sector, invites you to a free two-day programme designed to help owners and managers of technology companies to grow their business and manage their intellectual property. This programme is sponsored by the South East England Development Agency and is intended for companies based in the region.
Who should attend?
The programme is aimed at business executives from small and early-stage technology companies, and will provide particular insights into managing software businesses, where the development of a software-based product or service forms a core part of the activities of the company.
What do you get?
Your participation in the programme involves attending two events. The first will be delivered at one of three universities, and the second consists of an afternoon of workshops followed by networking and dinner at Wadham College, Oxford. There are opportunities to receive further business support from the STEM-UEN following participation in the scheduled programme.
When and where are the events?
The programme consists of two days in March 2010. The first day of the programme will be repeated three times, so you can choose to attend one of the following three dates and locations:
- 3rd March, University of Southampton Highfield Campus
- 4th March, eScience Centre, Oxford University
- 12th March, Reading University Whiteknights Campus
The second day will is open to all the attendees from the first three workshops and will be hosted at Oxford University on the 25th of March.

The first day is a workshop based on Microsoft’s BizSpark Innovation Academy, with a choice of three dates and locations as listed above. This is an interactive session providing an opportunity to explore a range of business topics together with other executives of small and growing technology companies.

The second part is run by the Oxford Innovation Society and includes presentations, networking event.

What is the STEM-UEN?
STEM-UEN is the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths University Enterprise Network, a new initiative supported by industry, universities and government and overseen by the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship. The purpose of the STEM-UEN is to strengthen links between businesses and universities. With a focus on technology and engineering, the STEM-UEN aims to help people acquire entrepreneurial skills, assist technology companies and to encourage new business creation.
