Typically we focus on testing ‘functionality’. However, in practice users are at least as interested in the non‐functional aspects of software. Even if they can’t explain exactly what they’re looking for, they can tell you what they don’t like, especially when your software fails to work as they’d like. And once your software has failed them, their trust in you is eroded.

So why don’t we always fully test the stuff that matters so much to users? There is a variety of reasons (or excuses?) given; however now’s your chance to learn more about non‐functional testing and ways to more thoroughly exercise these aspects for your projects and in your working environment. Our speaker, Julian Harty has been involved in the topic for over 10 years, and has been working on a wide
range of non‐functional areas, ranging from Accessibility to Security, from Performance to Internationalization. He is a well established speaker on the subject, having delivered a number of keynote talks at international conferences and regularly speaks at other notable events such as the BCS SIGIST conferences.
